Our Products

Gold vermeil is a type of jewellery that has become increasingly popular in recent years. It is a process that involves the application of a layer of gold onto a base metal such as silver or brass. The result is a beautiful piece of jewellery that has the appearance of solid gold, but is more affordable. The word “vermeil” comes from the French word for silver, “vermeille,” and refers to the process of gilding or plating silver with gold. In order for a piece of jewellery to be considered gold vermeil, it must meet certain standards set by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the United States. As per industry standards, vermeil jewellery requires a sterling silver base and a gold layer of at least 10 karats and 2.5 microns thick. However, this level of quality comes at a higher price point.

At Deema & Co, we offer vermeil jewellery with a thickness of 1-2.5 microns to make it more affordable for you, without compromising on style and quality. It’s important to note that a thickness of 1 micron can last for about 1-2 years depending on how well you care for your jewelry. So, you can still enjoy trendy and fashionable jewellery without breaking the bank..

PVD is a vacuum coating process that utilises a titanium nitride that produces a brilliant decorative and functional finish. PVD is an extremely durable coating which is more resistant to corrosion from sweat and regular wear than gold plating.

Gold Plating occurs when a thin layer of real gold is plated onto another metal. Gold plating is often done to give the look of real gold at a fraction of the cost of having a piece of jewellery that is solid gold. Gold plating doesn’t offer the durability of gold PVD coating and when scratched can reveal the base material. We use the highest quality PVD process so that you get the aesthetic and durability.

Gold Vermeil (pronounced vehr-may) is a term to describe jewellery that has a Sterling Silver base with gold plating at least 2.5 microns thick. Gold Plating is usually 1.0 micron so Gold Vermeil can last many years longer than standard Gold Plating.

The above process that we use at Deema & Co., for numerous materials with another metal (925 sterling silver, stainless steel, eco brass) to bond them together.

Most of our all day everyday jewellery are water safe and tarnish free jewellery (stainless steel vacuum plated), however, study shows that nothing last forever. Jewellery care is still needed.

At Deema & Co., our 925 silver/ eco-brass jewellery is between 1-2.5 micron gold/ rhodium electroplated. On top of this micron plating, we add a protective e-coating layer to increase shine, smooth and increase its water and scratch resistance. Depending on the wearer and weather, e-coating can last up to 6 – 9 months and microns is another additional 12 – 36 months.

Do note that all jewellery no matter how top quality it is, they are still susceptible to fading and tarnishing over time.

Pure gold is the only truly waterproof option, but gold-plated jewellery can last for years with proper care.

Our All Day Everyday Collection is the most durable in water, but we still recommend keeping it away from liquids, lotions, and perfumes. For all other jewellery, storing it away from liquids is best to prevent damage to the gold-plating.

Hypoallergenic jewellery is specifically crafted from materials that are less likely to cause an allergic reaction.

In many cases, allergies to jewellery are triggered by the presence of nickel or copper. Brass, for example, is an alloy of copper and zinc. However, our jewellery pieces are free from common irritants such as nickel, chromium, or lead, which often affect individuals with jewellery sensitivities.

Gemstones

We only source natural gemstones from legitimate sources that are not involved in funding conflicts and comply with United Nations Resolutions.

At Deema & Co., we are committed to preventing the sale of conflict diamonds and will take reasonable measures to ensure that no conflict diamonds are knowingly sold. To this end, we have signed agreements with all of our suppliers, requiring them to purchase diamonds only from reputable dealers who adhere to the Kimberley Process.

shopping information

While traditional stores may offer the advantage of allowing customers to physically handle and try on jewellery before purchasing, they often come with significant overhead costs that are ultimately passed on to the consumer. In order to offer jewellery items at minimal costs, we have chosen not to invest in a physical store concept.

If you have an interest in any of our jewellery and want to see how it looks on, we can easily take a picture or video of ourselves wearing it and send it to you via email. Simply send us an email at hello@deemaandco.com with the subject line “Jewellery Photo Request” and we’ll take care of the rest!

We believe in leveraging technology to provide a more efficient and cost-effective shopping experience. By using video calls or photographs, we can showcase the jewellery items in a realistic and engaging way without the need for a physical store. This allows Deema & Co., to keep overhead costs low and pass the savings on to my customers.

In summary, while some may prefer the traditional store concept, we believe in offering a modern, technology-driven approach to jewellery sales that minimizes costs while providing a convenient and personalized experience for our customers.

Let’s debunk a common myth together. Contrary to popular belief, the green discoloration that may appear on the skin beneath a piece of jewelry is not necessarily a sign of poor quality or harmful materials. It is merely a reaction to specific components within the jewelry and can even occur when wearing fine and expensive pieces.

This green patch of skin occurs when certain materials in the jewelry undergo oxidation. In other words, they react to the pH levels of your skin, leaving behind a stain. Individuals with higher acidic pH levels in their skin tend to be more prone to this reaction.

Another contributing factor is the presence of chemicals in hand creams or perfumes, which can cause the metal in the jewelry to oxidize, regardless of whether your skin is sensitive to metals or not.

The most common culprit responsible for this phenomenon is copper. Pure gold and silver are naturally too soft to be used alone in jewelry, so they are alloyed (stabilized) with other materials to create durable and high-quality pieces. Copper is often used as an alloy in silver or gold-plated jewelry to achieve the desired shape and consistency. For instance, the 925 sterling silver jewelry we offer consists of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper, hence the designation “925.” This composition ensures the production of top-quality silver jewelry and is employed by both high-end brands and more affordable fashion jewelry brands. Therefore, it should never be assumed that a trace of copper signifies poor quality.

To treat green skin caused by discolouration, you can follow these steps:

  1. Remove the jewelry: Take off the tarnished jewelry to prevent further contact with your skin.
  2. Clean the affected area: Gently wash the green-tinged skin with mild soap and warm water. Use a soft cloth or your fingertips to remove any residue or discoloration.

  3. Apply a soothing agent: To alleviate any irritation or redness, you can apply a gentle, hypoallergenic moisturizer or aloe vera gel to the affected area. These can help soothe the skin and reduce any discomfort.

  4. Allow the skin to breathe: Give your skin some time to recover by leaving the area free from any jewelry or restrictive accessories. Allowing the skin to breathe and heal naturally can expedite the recovery process.

  5. Prevent further contact: Avoid wearing the tarnished jewelry until it has been properly cleaned and restored. This will prevent additional contact with the reactive materials that may be causing the discoloration.

  6. Clean and restore the jewelry: Take steps to clean and restore the tarnished jewelry. You can use appropriate cleaning methods based on the type of metal and gemstones involved. Consult a professional jeweler or follow specific cleaning instructions provided by the manufacturer to restore the jewelry’s original appearance.

Remember, prevention is key to avoiding green skin caused by tarnished jewelry. Proper storage, regular cleaning, and avoiding exposure to harsh chemicals can help maintain the quality and integrity of your jewelry while minimizing the risk of skin discoloration.
