Gold vermeil (ver-may) is a jewellery plating technique where a thick layer of gold, at least 2.5 microns thick, is applied to a sterling silver base of high quality 10K gold. This creates a durable and long-lasting gold finish, making it an affordable alternative to solid gold jewellery. Deema & Co.’s gold plated sterling silver is at least 1 micron thick and is also coated with protective e-coating. This plating can last for several years depending on the wearer, compared to typical jewellery stores with 0.03 to 0.5 microns of 14K/18K gold plating that lasts only a few months. 2.5 microns plating can last for 3-5 years before it starts to tarnish.
